Tra Vinh
Tra Vinh Province
Tra Vinh is a city in southern Vietnam, capital of the homonymous province. It is located 200 km southwest of Ho Chi Minh City and 100 km northeast of Can Tho. The city was founded in 1900 and became the administrative center of Tra Vinh province in 1955.
A small province nestled between two of the nine arms of the Mekong, Tra Vinh looks like Cambodia with its very large Khmer community, the largest in Vietnam.
Coastal province, it belonged in the past to the Khmer empire, like a large part of the provinces of southern Vietnam. Thus, there are still many places inspired by Khmer culture (more than 140 pagodas), like the temples of Siem Reap in Cambodia.
The best time to visit Tra Vinh
With regard to the climate of the province, the latter enjoys, like the other provinces of the Mekong Delta region, a favorable climate throughout the year. However, due to its geographical position (by the sea) and its flat terrain, the province is subject to strong winds. You can come to Tra Vinh in any season because there are many festivals here but the best time is during the dry season from December to April.
The temperatures are pleasant all year round. The average annual temperature is 27°C.
What to see, what to do…?
The city of Tra Vinh is known for its crafts and its craft villages which can be discovered during sampan rides, between the islands and islets.
Apart from the classic tourist circuits, Tra Vinh is an exotic and peaceful destination, ideal for recharging your batteries between jungles and mangroves which are still preserved.
